Aerosol, Cloud, Convection, and Precipitation in the Coming Decade of Earth Observations from Space III

[13-Dec-2022] Life on Earth is fundamentally linked to aerosols, clouds, convective storms and precipitation due to their impact on climate, weather, air quality and the fresh water they supply. In spite of their fundamental importance, our present understanding does not allow us to simulate their effects in climate and weather models with sufficient accuracy to simulate regional changes and global feedbacks. In response to these challenges, the coming decade will feature several new space-borne missions specifically focused on improving our understanding of these atmospheric processes, evolution, and outcomes. This session will introduce the new measurements expected in the decade and how the new measurements will target improved knowledge of critical atmospheric processes. The session will also focus on the scientific understanding of low and high cloud feedbacks; aerosol direct and indirect radiative effects; convective properties; aerosol attribution; and applications of societal benefit that will be derived from these new observations.
